Edit2: The picture isbvery easy to find but the original source is very hard to find I don’t know what to believe anymore I hate the internet now :'(

Edit: after seeing the video someone else showed I am pretty sure this is AI

Something is putting me off about this picture

The clearnes of a picture in motion from 1935? You can see the spokes of the bike that is supposed to be in motion.

Also field of view seems to advanced but don’t know enough about fotographing history.

    The reflection seems to clean.

And the stack does seem very high. Mybe I am just a pleb but I don’t see a way to transport this on a bike. Somone already mentioned wind and airresistance.

My guess, modern staged photo, AI or photoshop

Yup. And sorry-- I wasn’t trying to waste anyone’s time. Was kind of in a rush right there, and probably should have searched harder, or simply not commented.

I’ve been reading about these guys since the 80’s though, and it’s always fascinated me how they could pull this stuff off. (altho according to WP, they can’t legally deliver it this way, anymore)

Haha, I love the naturally resonating echo of my voice.

Anyway, I’m thinking that what we have there are real shots of some delivery guys (there’s not exactly a shortage) which are then animated via AI. At best, it gives some impression of what the physics of the deliveries might have looked like. At worst, well, you know…

Bikes really haven’t changed too much (visually) over the past century or so. It’s a great design.

Materials have changed. Shocks and brakes have gotten significantly better. Gearing, shifters, electric motors, and tires have improved. Even the geometry has improved significantly.

…but the fundamental designs have stayed the same. Contrast that to the first airplanes, things have changed a lot in that regard!

Bikes like this one can still be bought new in the Netherlands, they’re called “opafiets” meaning grandfather bike.

Bikes like this can be bought new in Japan. They still mass-produce one of the now very old designs that most people buy as their first bicycle. Maybe not 1930s old, but still pretty old.

Those bikes are also often abandoned in droves and it’s common to see a flatbed Kei truck with a tall pile of unclaimed bikes being taken to the scrap yard.

The Dutch tradition is to throw them into the canals, where they’ll get dredged up periodically.
