Isn’t this that FAFO that They love to talk about?
If there’s anything recent news has taught me, it’s that you can commit any crime you want and get away with it as long as you did it using or for the purpose of using a car.
Nah, should get 15-20 minimum
Community, this morning I see a lot of Anti-gun and Anti-stand your ground sentiment. I think it’s unfair to bring what this woman did with her gun to the conversation. We should feel more empathy for her situation in that moment. She felt threatened and she dealt with that issue the way she was trained.
As a Fuck Cars community we need to focus on this situation as an example of how the car creates animosity between people. If both individuals arrived there in a different form of transportation, they may have not crossed paths like this. However, because it was in a car it created friction. I experience this friction in my day to day life and that’s why I hate cars. Please let’s focus on that as a community, let’s focus on how the automobile divides us, makes us angry, tears apart our community. That’s the point of this post, IMHO.
Thank you, and I’m sorry for arguing all morning. Good day.
Ok but stand your ground is still an idiotic policy.
Car orientated development is more idiotic ✌️
lol true
It just reveals that gun nuts are just scared cowards.
Title is misleading, there was a conflict over a parking space which resulted in the guy charging at her despite multiple warnings so she shot
It wasn’t like she gave him 1 warning and shot him either, he pursued and stalked her, while she retreated and repeated her warnings multiple times.
There’s no doubt in my mind that if she had no gun, he would have assaulted her, or worse.
Anyone who doubts that, hasn’t watched the video.
Yeah, sounds like this guy had it coming
I can’t imagine being tgis mad at someone about somethjng that i would stalk, threaten and potentially assault them. He did tgat over a PARKING SPOT, in pewpew country. Truly a stupid way to die.
Imagine if she didn’t have a gun and just had to retreat to her car and drive away? That would have been embarrassing.
You sound like a white cis male.

Not. That’s a really random judgement call. But not at all random to say you sound like a biggot based on this.
Imagine thinking that the man wouldn’t try to get into her car and kidnap her. Imagine thinking that the man wouldn’t have tried to taking her somewhere and rape her and keep her prisoner for years without anybody finding her. Your lack of empathy is mind-boggling. This woman had the right to defend herself!
How’s the weather in Florida?
Imagine being killed, or killing someone, over a parking space at Walmart. Very American and Patriotic.
Imagine fearing for your life and not having the ability to kill the threat? Very European and “free”

Lol funny how one is upvoted while the other is downvoted while both not pertaining to cars… Let me guess, all are reporting me so that I’m banned because God forbid you people read a contrary view point? This post is just bait at this point 🤣
Or, you know, the argument about EU is total bullshit…
Is it though? Let’s see if you have money in the EU and someone approaches you with a threatening manner what will happen? Your security will neutralize the threat.
If you’re a government official and someone walks up to you in a threatening manner what will happen? Your security will neutralize that threat.
If you’re a regular person and someone walks up to you in a threatening manner what will happen? You will be stabbed to death and if you fight back it’s racism
you’re a regular person
someone walks up to you
it’s racism
Reeeeeally telling on yourself there bud.
Huh? It was just an example
What if, what if, what if…
Almost like only one has a decent point.
it’s 16 downvotes, man, calm down.
Where can we get more David the gnome gifs?
Lol, Imagine assuming everyone fears for their life on a day to day basis like you apparently do in the US
Yea most European citizens don’t have the same fear Americans appear to have. The first issue we solved was the availability of guns.the person arguing with you over a parking space is unlikely to have one.
Yeah it’s the same here in Canada. It’s honestly not even like we don’t have guns; I grew up in a small town and a lot of families had them for hunting. The difference though is that they were always locked up and treated as a dangerous tool rather than just a toy or a fashion accessory like they seem to be in the US.
The thought of fearing for my life regularly to the point where I feel the need to carry a firearm for self preservation is absurd to me and gives me active warzone vibes. I don’t understand how Americans can’t see that adding more guns is the most brain dead “solution” to their problems.
They haven’t even used their weapons to take on an oppressive government like they’ve endlessly claimed they’d do
Trolling overtime to drive that engagement. The hustle is real.
there is no “engagement” incentive on lemmy, what?
I’m a troll but the person I responded to isn’t? How??
A Florida woman who fatally shot a man in the parking lot of a Walmart during a confrontation over a parking space won’t face charges, prosecutors announced Thursday.
The Broward County State Attorney’s Office said Florida’s “stand your ground” law makes the shooter, who said she was acting in self-defense, immune from prosecution in connection with the June 30 shooting in North Lauderdale.
Bart Diguglielmo, 62, was shot and killed in the incident, which was captured on several videos, including from cellphones and a Tesla, according to a memo on the shooting released Thursday by the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.
Man fatally shot in Walmart parking lot following dispute over parking space: Authorities
“A dispute over a parking space. In a Walmart parking lot. The facts surrounding the June 30, 2026, homicide of Bart DiGuglielmo are as tragic as they are absurd,” Broward State Attorney’s Office Homicide Trial Unit Division Chief Stephen Zaccor wrote in the memo. “There is relatively no dispute about what actually happened because the entire incident was captured by various video recording devices.”
The shooter, identified in the memo as Melissa Payne, was driving with her niece and niece’s baby when she and Diguglielmo got into a “brief stalemate” after attempting to park in the same spot, the memo said.

DiGuglielmo “inexplicably abandoned his car in the through lane of travel” and went into the store, before shortly returning to his vehicle, according to the memo. Multiple witnesses reported hearing him say he was going to “mess her car up” and “---- her s— up,” before driving off at a high rate of speed, parking and then walking toward Payne’s vehicle, according to the memo. A witness described him as being “visibly angry” while looking at Payne, according to the memo.
Payne exited her vehicle holding a phone in her left hand and a firearm in her right and said, per a witness, “If you keep coming up to me, I’m going to ------- shoot you!” the memo stated.
The witness reported that “despite those warnings,” DiGuglielmo continued to approach, and video showed him “aggressively approach” Payne, according to the memo.

DiGuglielmo “continued his pursuit” as Payne backed away from him, according to the memo. He is seen on video continuing to pursue her and “motioned as if he was going to damage” her vehicle with his keys, according to the memo.
DiGuglielmo turned back and then approached Payne, at which point she fired her gun, striking him in the abdomen, according to the memo.
Payne was on the phone with her husband during the shooting, who told authorities that she said, “Bae, I shot. Call the cops,” according to the memo.
She was briefly taken into custody by the Broward Sheriff’s Office and her “recitation of the facts was consistent with the various sources of video evidence,” the memo stated. She was released after stating she acted in self-defense, prosecutors said.
In an analysis of the incident, Zaccor stated that Payne was “in a public place, a Walmart parking lot, and therefore was in a place she had a right to be.” She further is not a convicted felon and had a right to possess a firearm, “therefore she was not doing anything unlawful at the time she used deadly force,” he wrote.
“Accordingly,” Zaccor continued, Payne “had the right to stand her ground if she was in reasonable fear of death or great bodily harm.” Based on the evidence, the state is unable to prove that her fear of great bodily harm was “not reasonable,” he wrote, citing DiGuglielmo’s actions.
Zaccor said that because Florida is a stand-your-ground state, Payne “did not have to wait to be attacked before resorting to deadly force. She did not have to retreat as long as her fear was reasonable and no evidence has been presented to disprove that.”
🗽🗽 what an amazing and brave woman! THANK YOU FOR STANDING YOUR GROUND MA’AM 🫡
so, who won the parking spot?
I’d say she did or he wouldn’t have been so mad. But really by default she would be declared the winner, because he’s fuckin’ dead.
There is relatively no dispute about what actually happened because the entire incident was captured by various video recording devices.
This sentence is relatively not good.
Florida: Come die over a parking spot.
And there’s good odds that in the background, you’ll have one of those famous billboards reminding Florida fathers not to drink and rape their daughters! “She’s your daughter, not your date” indeed…
Edit: I just noticed old mate looks like he’s in his pyjamas and slippers, too. Dignified.
I’m nominating this as the most American thing that happened all week.
She looks chill like that guy from Turkey:
