We have one data point: him attempting to shirk his familial responsibility after being asked. It provides some small level of support for the stance you’re arguing against.

It does not support your contrarian response at all.

So, no. It doesn’t boil down to the same thing.

It does, if you choose not to understand that, no problem. We have no idea what the next response from the wife could be. “Wow, that’s an amazing idea honey!” is just as likely considering she married this man.

Hivemind goes crazy. You fabricated that in the same way I did. There’s no telling what the wife reaction would be, so you can infer anything from the tweet.

Nobody is denying this: him attempting to shirk his familial responsibility after being asked

The point you are arguing is that his wife would leave him from things like this, which is assuming that his wife would object to his “familial responsibility avoidance”, which is the same as assuming she would not object to it. You are inventing the wife having a negative reaction, I am saying the wife could have a positive reaction.

Also, you invented something first, pot calling the kettle black.

He may have chosen a different trajectory from hers

I knew people were gonna be obsessed with AI, but I genuinely never thought people would surrender all executive function and thought to what is, ultimately, a very elaborate and planet destroying if=then machine.

the amount of people I have seen becoming totally dependent on it is ridiculous. There are people who cant even have human interaction anymore without running it through their AI model to process the message, and produce a reply.

and its 100% invading the real world too, I dont know the whole details cause you try to turn your ears off at the pharmacy to not hear other peoples private information… but there was a woman getting very heated with one of the pharmacy people and I only took notice when she slammed her phone on the counter, aggressively pointed at it, and said very loudly “I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU SAY, LOOK, RIGHT HERE, MY AI SAYS YOU’RE WRONG” in a that kareny way that says her and her AI was 100% wrong.

Damn I try to keep my mouth shut but if someone screamed that near me I’d be interjecting. Like goddamnit the AI does not know anything.

It’s a machine modeling human speech. It’s all a hallucination and sometimes that hallucination is straight up lies and sometimes, hopefully most of the time, it aligns with actual reality.

I fucking loathe that people won’t take 15 minutes to just read a basic primer on what an LLM is. It’s a fancy autocorrect, and yeah it’s way more complex than that but at the end of a day it’s made to model realistic human language output - and that’s it. It doesn’t have any actual knowledge, it doesn’t have any way to know if what it says is true or not, and it certainly doesn’t know if what it says is insane.

I have a few friends who use OpenAI and Gemini to do this (generate new stories every night) and I do not understand why you would do so. There are a bazillion kids books out there. Just get ten of those and your kid will be happy for ten months!

Not to mention the creation of a shared cultural heritage.

Most Danish kids have heard a few, or all, of HC Andersen’s biggest works. It gives them something to talk about when they’re socialising with other kids

If your friends kid, becomes the only kid in their class which haven’t heard the stories of their local cultural heritage. That’s a potential for creating a social rift in school, why have you not heard about the ugly duckling?

Childrens books are expensive. A 20 pages one cost the same amount like a 700 pages roman.

We use the library but cant go there every week.

Thinking is hard after full workday + 6h intense childcare. Youll see what i mean when you have kids and do it without screentime. Zero.

I certainly wouldn’t buy all our kids books brand new.

I do buy a couple of the hard cover classics.

I buy a heap from thrift stores. This is probably the majority.

We go to the library when we can.

I also pirate and print some.

Secondhand shops. Both online and offline.

        Charity/ thrift shops.

Every child is hell in their own special way but not every day is going to be 6h ‘intensive’ childcare. Unless you’ve got an intellectually challenged child, you’re going to have some days where it’s easier and some where it’s harder.

And, if they make it hard enough, they go to bed without a story. They cry and scream and they learn, then maybe tomorrow they’ll just be hard instead of too hard.

Man, I feel kinda sorry for that guy. He must have had terrible parents, if he perceives story time as a chore instead of an opportunity to bond with your child. He should probably get some professional help to work through his horrible childhood. Though his next tweet would probably be „I‘ve replaced my therapist with an AI and now I‘m even more confident that everyone else is wrong!“

When my kids were in pre-k, there was a Donuts with Dad day where the fathers would come in to visit. I was appalled to see so many of the fathers just standing in a corner talking to each other, completely ignoring their kids rampaging around the room hitting each other with things. Like, your kid is beating on another kids and you’re not even glancing in that direction even after you were finally roused to tell him to stop 2 other times.

I watched a presentation from a big tech company in which the presenter talked how, while his wife was giving birth, he saw that as an opportunity and asked AI to build a “nursery design” site because he could use his daughter as a model. People were praising him for being forward thinking about providing to his family, I just couldn’t imagine being this greedy.

I saw people from the same company eagerly discussing using AI to recreate dead relatives. It’s disgusting how much these people are hypnotized by AI

I know this is about the AI but the unaddressed elephant in the room is that people romanticize the idea of having children and realizing it’s not what they expected or really wanted. Society constantly puts pressure on people having kids.

I also know people who dont want to have kids. They dont have to.

I also also know people who really want kids, but in the way a person would want a dog, so they can train it to be good, hit it when its bad, and itll never be older than 3 years because they havent thought that far ahead. These people should be sterilized.

people romanticize the idea of having children and realizing it’s not what they expected

      dude…so much this.

I had zero romantic thoughts of having kids. I didn’t even want them, honestly. my wife and literally everyone around us on the other hand, very much so wanted us to have kids.

don’t judge though. as a current parent I don’t ignore my responsibilities and fully intend on giving my kids the best I can. at least, a better more loving home than I had.

but man, life would be so much easier without them. I literally could be on a beach somewhere in the world right now if I didn’t have kids. have lunch in Paris. then stop by in Denmark for some dinner.

by the time they can stand on their own I’ll be dead. so now I can only save money in hopes to help soften any financial hardships they will need to endure.

I’ve been playing around with the idea of recording some “dad’s wisdom” videos for them when they get older and I’m not around.

The video idea sounds pretty good.

I went separate ways with my ex-fiancee over this topic. It wasn’t so much as I was against having kids, I had conditions such as financial stability and owning a home. And deep down I didn’t want to take care of two people and be financially responsible for everything, my ex-fiancee already had a hard time holding down a job.

But like you said, even now that I have my own place, I’m more motivated to travel than get into that lifestyle. I’m sure I would have been a decent parent having worked in education but the tradeoffs are too steep for me.
